Interesting. So then what is 'good for the game'?
More raps? More inane/mundane combats? More jpgs from Zom?
Would it really be that satisfying if Vrill had 17 hp and you guys killed him in half a round? (Well you did, maybe not in one round though, back many levels ago.)
I claim that recurring NPCs are essential to any game. Also, a driving force behind the PCs moving around is important, and hate for an NPC is tried and true, especially when you have more than two players.
If this were your game, how would you run it?
Actually, David Hasselhoff just today nicely sums up what I try to put in my adventures. I ask myself those exact same questions every time I log onto the blog.
