Dave, Fist of Odin
...But is it fun?
I'm having a blast here. I get to 'play' some 'D&D' - no no, I get to connect with people all over the world at something I like to do. A cheesy super-villian? Well, duh! This is first edition D&D over a blog, dude.
Mark - I'm not sure what you mean by 'this is more story to Rob as it is to some of us.' What do you mean by that?
And sure, Hello Airport was weird, but the river is wider now with more PCs, too - to carry your metaphor out. Not feeling so affecting of the plot stream? Ummm . . . I was put down by a PC so I wouldn't fight the MoP who had:
a) captured an emissary of my god, and
b) could negate my spells by Thinking Really Hard.
Ever since then I've been kinda neutral on the whole driving-the-plot thing, and when I bring up going after the MoP, everyone's seemed focused on Vrill. I'm not complaining - I'm just saying that I don't see how y'all feel like things are moving beyond your control, or that things are too cheesy for having the fun anymore. And Rob's thrown other goals at us - did we ever do anything about Brogg's Grisbanic nemesis? Several times we could have turned away from the Vrill story, but didn't, and now we're complaining about the Vrill-story?
I actually feel the most plot-sticked about killing Abbey, because I'm pretty sure we would NOT have attacked-to-kill a little girl, but Abbey was pretty weird and funny as a floating animated head, so it worked out okay.
Plot-sticked? Maybe. But, so? Right from the get-go, my god was chosen for me by random die-roll. Are you having fun? I am, even though I suspect that I'll be rolling a new character soon. Perhaps a bold fighter, or a studious mage.
And, is this not a wacked-out situation where we can do crazy stuff, and achieve crazy goals?
My two cents.
