Ed's characters pretty consistently get shafted in my games for some reason

Tut, I think fighter would be fine. You also might consider barbarian or paladin, why not? Barbarian might be the best choice, as you'd get 1d12 for hp. Anyone have 1E Unearthed Arcana and can clue us in on barbarian stats?
