My cat's name is Blue (on account of his being a Russian Blue). I dunno about the ass kicking thing, Blue is a pretty big, tough guy, but he's very good natured.

Funny you bring up His Dark Materials, I'm on the third book right now (I've read the series before, but that was a few years ago.) Excellent stuff, gotta love honorable polar bears in armor. D&D 3.5 actually ripped those off in one of their books. The ice environment one, I can't remember what it was called. But they had polar bears with opposable thumbs who always wore plate mail, and their alignment was LN.
