Dave, Fist of Odin

Hey Justin - is your cat okay now? I hope things are well. I thought you went to UW in Madison, but in reviewing posts tonight it sounds like you go to school in . . . Virginia? - and grew up in Madison. Yes? I like Madison, except for the cold - even after an ex of mine moved there. But I suspect it's a good place to be from, or maybe to raise a family as an academic. Some good record stores, though.

Just so y'all know - I've got a crazy amount of busy going on right now. Sometimes that means I post several times a day, but I fear this is one of the times where I'm posting once every three or four days. DFoO is still in it, though - healing and clobbering and bringing in bears. You know how I roll it!

I saw some video from the guy who's making the Halo movie. I was worried before, but I'm not anymore. Dude knows robots, is what I'm saying.

Out of Comish

Hey guys, sorry about the dearth of posting, I've had a lot of shit going on this week (papers, cat almost dying, preparations to go home, other stuff...) so I've only been grazing. I gather we died at Abbey's hand but got revived and didn't lose con. I'll try to get caught up soon. The good news is I'll be back to posting regularly around Sunday or so, and I'll have all my books again, so I'll get my character up to date.

Anyhow, I'm at work now, and it's the late shift, so I've got plenty of downtime, so I'ma help smash some blobs.

New you

Alright, so you're gonna be one of the guys from downstairs, one of the Greyhelm citizens. Maybe a guard or something.

Half xp is a fine deal. You'll have 33,400 xp then, which would make you a 5th level fighter (close to 6th level) if Fighter is what you want.

You guys can decide what to do with Renwick and Renwick's stuff.

You'll start with basic, nonmagical gear, take whatever you want.

....

You might have to come up with a whole new Blogger ID, get a new Blogger invite and all that crap. I've already extended a new Blogger invite to you for DiD just in case, but since I'm not a Table Talk admin (Mark, can you do that for me already?), Mark'll have to do that for you.

Who's the new guy?

Alright, but no new guy is getting my strength gloves...

Love bites.

Alright, I am in for moving it along. I'll watch after you, Marivhon. Until you get the feeling back. -Won't let anyone 'Cinder' you.

As for Renwick, I was thinking that he could become a dual-class fighter, but then I looked at his miserable 6 strength. Christ, that's bad. Still, it's just a -1 to hit. And, the recent ass-raping aside, he has a Con to be proud of.

In short, I think it's a great opportunity for character development. So much so, that Brogg is deeply touched by Renwick's plight. I give Renwick my gloves of +1 Strength. -Just one more point to get you out of the negatives, buddy.

Dave, Fist of Odin has a spare +1 mace if you want to swing that way...

C'mon Renwick, I'd be proud to have you on the front lines! Become a 1st level Fighter!!!

King Tut

Let's just let it go, we attacked a high-level mage and got owned. To me, it doesn't really change anything, we're still in the Castle and still have stuff to do.

I would have been a lot more frustrated if the DM had let this encounter drag on and on and on, with us wracking our brains for all kinds of answers, when we had no answers.

It's like in Dragon's Lair, if you go the wrong direction, the game kills you, and you know not to go that way.

The only difference is that I'm not giving the DM a quarter >.<
.................

I'd like to see what we can do about Renwick. I'd hate to be stuck with a character I didn't like. Here are some options that I'd like to see rulings on:
1) we spend some gold to do a ceremony where Renwick is reincarnated as a different class(es), perhaps with 1 (or 1/2) level loss?
2) We trade Renwick for "someone in the Castle," perhaps a 6th or 7th level lurks among them?
3) We turn a blind eye to the story and "reality," and let Renwick be what he's always felt like inside, a beautiful woma....wait....I mean another class.

Any thoughts? I'd really like to have Renwick involved in DiD and I think there's a much better chance of it happening as a different class.
..............................

God I hate Blogger. It's been doing a lot of "connection reset," and it will also get stuck on "loading 0%"

BDSM is about consent.

love can do terrible things....

I am amazed you didn't think we would attack her after Zelba said we had to kill her. How did you think it would go down? You took the priests poweraway and told them the only way to get it back was by doing what Zelba wanted. We may have played before, but you have also run before....

As to her being so powerful we should have known better, come on. We had to fight a death knight when I was 5th level, and Renwick was maybe 4th. We killed him only to have Abbey jump in and slay us all. Did you really think we had kind feelings towards her? If she didn't have an item to cast in silence she would have died. If mages could have their spells disrupted she would be dead.

You set us up for certain death, and seem to think that you hold no responsibility for that. I don't think I had another course of action. If we were playing table top the game would have ended. I have no idea why I am alive now. If it was Zelba who brought me back I would know that it was to kill the Vrills and Ron. Thats what Marivhon thinks has happened. He just has no idea of how to do that, since he can't hurt Abbey. He tried his best. If it was Abbey that brought us back, which wouldn't really make sense to Marivhon, WHY?

I'm lost. I'm on the TART. I'm reading the blog.

I know I should keep my damn mouth shut...

...but I just can't help it. So just hear me out this one more time?

Main reason I moved things along as I did, was to avoid 'retconning' and you guys wasting a lot of good stuff and game time on an unwinnable combat. Potion of Zelba for instance... bringing someone back, to 1 hp, making them lose a CN point, only to have them die again. Dying sucked, but dying twice and losing a CN, plus losing an item potentially valuable in a different situation... I thought that sucked a lot more. Plus potions, charges, and real life time.

Once combat started, I really couldn't see how you guys could escape certain death. The details of the spellcasting are sort of irrelevant once the Death Spell went down I thought. The Anti Magic scroll wouldn't save you, teleporting away wouldn't save you, etc. So I just wanted a quick mercy kill, at the expense of your free will, it seems.

I did it out of love.

9.27.2006

Alright

Okay, opinions noted, thanks everyone.

In the interest of bygones, I won't argue any more about spell or combat details, unless you really want to hear more about DBF, Stoneskin, Anti-Magic, etc. I'd be happy discussing things further, but hopefully in parallel to game continuation, not in place of it.

PCs are in control, post what you want to do.

Me three.

Paul's big post sums it up for me. The DBF makes no sense. It came from nowhere. The anti-magic scroll was a real possibility. It's very hard to make decisions when you can't anticipate what is or what is not possible.

Maybe I should have released my Magic Resistant Thunder Gnome on Abbey. He hits automatically for 20d20, no save. Oh, sorry I forgot to mention that I had one.

Basically, it just sucks to log on and see: You all died, thanks for reading.

If you read back, I did attempt to surrender once I realized we were woefully out-matched. -I've got no problem with a character death here and there.

Where to go from here? On I guess... I just want you to know it's not about the Con point. I'm keeping my -1 as a badge of honor. I always feel dirty arguing out of consequences. I just want to let everyone know where I stand when it comes to this kind of stuff. -I think it erodes the fragile value of a character in the players mind's eye. Gives me kind of a "who cares what I do?" feeling.

Dave, Fist of Odin

Hey all,

I was going to write a long post about what I think, but - strange as it is for me to say this - Tut said basically what I wanted to say. No harm, no foul - let's go see what Vrill's all about.

King Tut

Sorry I couldn't make it through most of the text, but my $0.02:

I don't really care that we got whacked, maybe its good to keep us on our toes a little more and think more. She's an archmage, so we probably shouldve gotten wrecked.

Anyways, no harm done, no CON loss. What's next?

9.26.2006

Marivhon, maybe not.

When did Abbey cast Geas on me? I think it was when she told us to go into the underworld and get the shit from Vrill. Thats over now, we can't do that. what Geas? I don't know of anything I feel compelled to do for Abbey. That's what Geas does....It does not make it so you can't attack someone. I doesn't last for this long, because you will die if you neglect a Geas. So she did something else....oh don't worry about it...right I'm just dead, because, well because.

Marivhon, maybe not.

I knew she was tough, but I thought maybe since Zelba sent us back to life, and Abbey didn't use the White book to bring us back, we would atleast be able to try and hit her. She told us she couldn't attack Vrill becuase he had used the book on her. As far as I know she never did that to us. She said we would be unable to attack her when she did that, but to my knowledge she didn't do it... I believed that the reason we couldn't attack her below Grito was because we were undead under her control.

We have stood before the Grand Master of Flowers, and walked away. The GMoF is way tougher than a single 18th level mage, I thought she was 14th. She would have maybe 50-75 hp depending on her con, and if she has stats like us I doubt she would have Hp over 50. I really thought I could hit her, that the quest I was sent on was possible. I thought that was a safe assumption. I knew she could cast Power Word Stun, but I didn't know she could cast 3 of them. Meaning she also has 2 8th circle spells and a 9th minimum. Which makes me really wonder why she needs our help at all. At what level exactly are we going to be better prepared for that? She was alone and had just wasted one of her 7th level spells. I thought it was her only 7th level spell. I also thought that the silence would buy us a round while Abbey cast vocalize, the thing that mages cast when they are silenced. I thought that was what she did when nothing happened, not a Delayed Blast Fireball. Which, I believe, by the book leaves a glowing ember floating in the air. Not something I would stand next to. I am not sure about Death Spell, I don't know how many HD it can effect. How many creatures or any of that. Cloudkill does allow saves depending on player level, whatever. Stoneskin only blocks one attack, thats it, and then it's gone. You don't have to do enough damage to take it down. I don't think you can forcecage 3 people. Zelba fucked us. I feel like saying Rob skull fucked us. He won't own up to it. He thinks it all was my fault, and maybe Tuts and Schmektors for attacking Abbey. I disagree. I am really not happy about how it went down. Or the implications that we somehow stupidly asked for this.

I hope you actually read all that and that it makes some sense. I think it does. If rob wants to say that were fucked I think that sucks. Someone in the Party had an antimagic Scroll and we didn't even get to use it. We could have done that and killed the bitch with ease, but no we weren't even given a chance. Generally if a charmed person is attacked then the charm is dropped, but I was told that I was magic missiled to death. I think a roll would have been nice. I do move really fast, and I don't think she could keep up. I had a potion of raise dead I could have used on Schmektor to bring him back, and given him a lot of healing potions. I could have tried to use the Zom controller to get him to help.....but no. Just skull fucked. How fun is that...?

Rebuttal 3

She cast Power Word Stun down under Grito. She then cast Forcecube, just to shut up Zom right before you attacked her.

Geases are tough, tough for players and GMs to work with. It's tough to lay out the exact stipulations, such as it's not okay for Marivhon or Brogg to attack her, but it's okay for Marivhon to silence himself and stand by her, while Brogg AIDS Schmektor?

In any case, you're all now powerless to hurt her, by whatever magic she's used.

Me too.

I agree with Paul. I have no idea why we should have expected Abbey to be an archmage. I assumed she used some sort of item to geas us last time we were faced off against a ridiculously powerful foe and killed. See "A stunning conclusion": 4.12.2006.

And, weren't we kind of geased by a god to kill her?

Seriously, maybe it all makes sense behind the screen, but not so much over here.

Marivhon, maybe not?

Um, we were brought back to life by Zelba and commanded to kill Abbey and Vrill. We were also told by you that these things were time sensitive and that Zelba wasn't real happy with our progress. So maybe you should be a little mad at you self for setting up the dominos we pushed over. I've now been auto killed twice.

?

You can do nothing. Oh yeah, and you die.

Huh?

No save sucks, I agree

The point of spells like that (1E Death Spell), I think, is so that high level mages don't have to nickel-and-dime lots of lower level opponents. They can just drop one spell and kill a bunch of henchmen in one blow. Cloudkill and Sleep work similarly. Symbol of Death and PW:Kill are also no save I believe.

...

Assassin party sounds great... two problems. 1) This campaign ain't over yet, so don't go thinking Tut's dead-dead. This is 1E, where Raise Deads can come and go. 2) Most people only have one back, so only one assassin at a time gets to try his backstab instant death blow. And 1E is notoriously bad about when that roll even applies.

King Tut

Seems a little overpowered...what's the point of a spell like that?

I'll just make an Assassin next campaign, when they backstab they have a 50% chance to outright kill the target. Let's all just make assassins, with 1 mage to cast invisibility. It'll be the easiest campaign ever.

Regarding the latest turn of events

If you'd like to raise concerns, i.e. bitch, about fairness and whatnot, by all means go ahead.

Of course, DiD has never really been about fairness, and the whole party has died before, so let's not worry too much about it. Except for maybe Marivhon, as his CON is running low.

Remote control plane

I find this to be brilliant.

Games

Yeah, Shadowrun was great. Broken system for char creation and magic, but still fun. Tut, it was the one game I remember you running too... had a blast playing 'Dr. Zero'.

Tried a lot of other systems: Call of Cthulhu (still one of the best game concepts), RuneQuest, some SPI game called Dragon Warriors or something that had a great magic system, Schmek will recall Marvel Superheroes, Car Wars, hmm... Star Trek, I had totally forgotten about Toon, tried Paranoia once... I suppose that's way more than enough.

Played a little White Wolf stuff, including LARPing a bit. No comment.

But mostly D&D. It was fucking boring where we grew up.

Re: other rpg's

Shadowrun was our thing. I think we only played 1 campaign tho, I don't really know why, I loved playing Shadowrun. I also think we played an rpg called Toon, where you play cartoons. It was pretty light-hearted. I only think we played that for 1 or 2 days, or maybe not at all.

Shadowrun is where it's at though...I'm hoping for another computer game.

Classes: Fighter/Magic-User/Spanish 101

Don't sell yourself short- you can pretty much give yourself whatever stats you want. 1e was all about GM power. Definitely before the concept of "player rights". Sometimes I'm not sure that's a bad thing.

I'm currently taking Asian Civilization, Germanic Myths and Legends, Spanish 101, Philosophy 101 (or 102, I don't remember offhand), and Psychology of Personality. Mostly just gen-eds and fun stuff, 'cause I've still got time for that.

Out of curiosity, anyone here play any other RPGs? I'm a pretty big fan of 3rd edition D&D, Call of Cthulhu, and various White Wolf games (though I'm not usually as fond of their subject matter as I am of their mechanics/writing style).

9.24.2006

CR very yes

Hmm, actually I probably have about 5 hp. A knife wound won't kill me, but a sword or an arrow pretty much could. And I dunno about 'maximum charisma', but thanks though.

Oh yeah Marivhon, about leveling, well, sorry about that. You guys skipped a whole level of the castle, and I decided to cut out some BS monsters to get to the meat of the story. You're super close though, really.

What classes are you taking Moth, er, Justin? Some of us here don't hate school as much as others.

Pstspellzplzlol

Thanks Rob, I'll get some spells picked out soon, hps rolled, etc. Hopefully I'll be able to do that later tonight or tommorow morning at work, at the earliest.

I dunno, Marivhon, attacking the DM, at our levels? Hell, at any level? I mean, that's CR Very Yes type stuff there. We're talking a million hit points and maximum charisma, that sort of thing. I think we should focus on pwning Vrill first.

Gotta get back to writing an Asian Civ paper...

1E spells

Regarding Mage spell lists...

Okay, there's no official listings that I can find either, but there are several workarounds.

First of course, you might be able to sweet talk Mark into adding something to the Player Ref page. That would be best. Not me, no thanks, besides Mark is great at formatting.

Second, there's an old computer game called 'Pool of Radiance' that was, in the 80s, straight up 1st edition D&D. The manuals are available on line, and contain listings of some spells by level- mainly combat-useful spells, but it's better than nothing:
http://www.gamebanshee.com/poolofradiance/spells.php
http://www.the-underdogs.info/game.php?id=4724 (download the manual, look in the back)

Third, the core third edition open source rules (the d20 system) is a good approximation to what 1e spells were like. Almost all the same, with minor exceptions (e.g., sleep in 1e is no save, while in 3e you get a save). This should do you fine:
http://www.wizards.com/d20/files/v35/SpellListII.rtf

Try the d20 stuff first. Should be good enough, and me and those with books will be happy to rules-lawyer and clarifiy if necessary.

...

Oh, and I love that someone's search for 'Clay Aiken' brought them to us. They probably weren't expecting to find a fighter doing his business in a nightmare realm though. But then again, who does?

Marivhon

I've looked around alot on the web for shit and I can't really find much by way of resources. The Mjyoung link on the linksworthwhile is the best thing I have seen. nothing about spells. I think that's because all of the 1st ed stuff is more protected than the 3rd ed "open source d20 system". As to whether your in it seems you are. Hell Chris and I used to hate each other so if you want to play it's not like I can stop you......Maybe Marivhon can but I doubt it, whats your ac? Just kidding, so in summary. Nothing really exists that I found that isn't on the links page that is of use using 1st edition. I hate school. The girls there are pretty, but they're young and full of modern ideas.

Marivhon

renwick is 6th and has posting anxiety disorder right now. I think we just have to hit vrill hard. I have a potion of speed and a potion of "20!". I think I'll give the speed to Brogg and keep the 20 for myself so I can stun the shit out of Vrill. I also have my wand of silence. Moth you're fine and I'd buy you a beer too. Rob on the other hand is a jerk cause he told me I'd gain a level after doing the next 3 levels of the tower and her we are on the 4th level after he said that and I still haven't leveled. I was 6th when we picked up Tut and now he's 6th. Screw Rob, but you're fine moth. I think we could take Rob in a fight, you with me?

A OK

Alright, so if Mark can find something amazing (in terms of online forum), we'll move over, otherwise we'll stay with Blogger. Word verification now seems off.

Starting a new/side game is unlikely, but I just wanted to put advance feelers out there. The main reasons would be to get back to low level things sometimes, which can be more fun and simple than an ever-spiraling campaign. Also, to see if anyone else new wants to join in, so they could get started at the ground floor. But DiD is keeping me pretty busy these days.

In June, I thought the game was over when no one was posting for Hello Airport. So I was just imagining a world where, eventually (next year or two?), we're all totally sick of Vrill's BS, Zelba, and that kind of stuff- e.g., Mark has a habit of dropping out of games when the levels get too high- so a second game would be a solution to try to satisfy everyone. But thinking more about it, it'd be unnecessary now and just extra work. Another solution would be just to make DiD 'epic', not in the >20th level powergaming sense, but in the 'legacy' sense. We conclude the campaign, your guys die or retire or work on the farm, and a new, maybe related batch of guys step on up.

Eh whatever, things are working, sounds like we're all smiles here. Back to our scheduled programming... And it's technically Sunday evening, so we're on to continue the main storyline.

Moth

I see what you're saying Dave. I guess I do tend to go a little overboard with trying not to be presumptuous. Just a tick, I guess. As for the beer, I dunno if we'l everl meet, but I appreciate it.

As for Vrill... well, I'm sure he's got something planned. He knows we're coming, and he knows he's gotten his ass murdered before for fucking with us. He's not going to hold back. I say we try to rig up some protective items. What level is Renwick? I think at 12th level MUs can start making magic items. At very least, we shouldn't go through the mirror without some buffs (strength, PFE (PFG?), Flame Shield, that sort of thing). Anyone know any of those?

Dave, Fist of Odin

Yup, Vrill's a douchebag. I say we let hm get done what he's got to do - but I suspect we'll get there at an ominous, just-as-he's-about-to-pull-the-lever moment, and we'll ruin all his plans. Again.

I'm okay with that - don't get me wrong. I'm just saying that his plans probably won't fuck us over immediately, so why not.

And hey Moth - seems to me like your opinions count as much as anyone's. Most of the people on here gamed together in high school, sure, but now we're engaged in this thing. When you say you worry about your opinion counting, though, it calls something into question that wasn't in question before. You see what I'm saying?

What I'm saying, is having another Magic Missle coming their way is a good thing, especially when followed up with a sword-to-the-face. Plus, the raps. I dunno if we'll ever meet in person - but if we do, I'll buy you a beer.

That's MY 2 copper.

It's Cool.

There hasn't been anything in the mian game or table talk that has offended me. No worries there.

I dunno how much swing my opinion has here on matters of the game, and I understand if it carries none, but I figure I might as well voice it, if Rob is gathering info. I like DiD a lot, and would be fine with continuing it as long as everyone is interested. If everyone decides to start a new game, and I'm invited to play, I'd also be interested in that. I think blogger suits this great. *shrug* Just my 2 cp.

I'll try to work on some leveling stuff soon. I know I'm way behind on that, but I've got alot of stuff going with school and other matters. Anyone know if there's info on 1e spells anywhere on the intarweb?

9.23.2006

Dave, Fist of Odin

Well, if there was any concern about whether we'd get that G rating, I think I've successfully pushed us significantly over the line. Let my post serve to say what I think about offensive language.

I worry that I took it too far, though, since we've had post after post after post, and then nothing - but maybe everyone's all resting up after their levels.

Sigh. I remember levels.

9.22.2006

Delicate

No offense taken here... after all, I took that gay thing one step more... perhaps I should apologize to all of the gay men who masturbate to picture of Clay Aiken.

but I won't.

Dave, Fist of Odin

I'm fucking pissed at all the swears on here!

I think Blogger is acceptable - it could be better, sure, but switching to a new product will carry with it a bunch of weird, bad other shit to deal with. Yeah, it'd be nice to have an HP counter, but like Mark said, we could lin to some page that only Rob as access to that displays that. Or - couldn't we just add some sort of hyperlinky-text to the side, that Rob edits with the newest HP? We have that list of characters, and the Links Worthwhile - why not do another thing like that for HP?

I'm broke the the people George Bush hates, so I can't by any domains right now, but if it happens I could kick in $100 a year or something for the hosting. Mark - you need any admin help?

Might not have to be said, but...

Hey guys, just a heads up. ZOM-G and Greg Vrill have the potential to be offensive... sorta really offensive. We got some new people here, from all walks of life, who haven't yet experienced first-hand the mature majesty of Ye Olde Vrille, and the SCHMEKTOR IS A HOMO/Furry-Brogg-sheep things just sort of scratch the surface of where Zom can go.

So... obviously opinions expressed by NPCs ain't my own, are for comedy purposes only, and lemme know if you think I've gone too far, honestly. There's getting pissed in game, and then out of game.

On this day, we all rejoice with the people of Florida

Congrats Steve!

Absolutely fantastic. Have a great weekend with the lady.

Cause of the bar

Yeah, collapsable threads is the kind of thing I'm talking about too. Great suggestion... more like 'Forum' style than 'Blog' style I guess. Of course, really, it's not like Mark is the guy in a cubicle working on this for us... whatever you wanna do, MK, that's cool.

Yeah Steve, congratulations on passing the bar! I'll drink to that this weekend.

Collapsible threads would be hot

That would we could, for example, expand or collapse long side-threads such as the Books. That would first make it easier for the DM/player not to miss something, and second, make it easier for those of us who aren't raising any stats (anyone? anyone? Buehler? Oh nevermind, it's just me) to skip through that stuff and see if anything else is going on.

What's wrong with Blogger?

Steve, congratulations!!!!

If we moved, we wouldn't really lose anything here. As this blog would remain, I could even link to our archives.

However, blogger does provide some ease-of-use. There are blogging platforms like Wordpress and Typepad that work similarly, but allow for a lot more customization.

This is what's wrong with Blogger:
1) Blogger does not host files. For example, our header image and the DiD summary PDFs are hosted on a site called myfilestash.com.
2) Thus, Blogger cannot store HP totals on the mainpage that can be changed with ease. It isn't impossible, however, the data needs to be in a hosted file. To alter the file, one generally needs to go to the hosting site, log in, etc... in order to update our HPs.
3) Our character sheets are somewhat limited. If you haven't noticed, you can only add a certain number of items in each field before they stop showing up. Editing Blogger profiles is easy, which is a very good thing, however, a new platform should have customizable profile pages that are easy to edit.
4) Blogger has limited customization potential. One thing I would like to do is to have our RSS immediately get saved into a word.doc. Perhaps someone is out there that does this and hosts the docs for free, but I haven't seen it. With domain space, we could do this. Basically, having our own site would allow us to dream and do.

Even so, Blogger isn't half bad. I've learned a lot from this experience, and were we to start a new campaign on a new Blogger site, I think it could be pimped out a bit more.

We might even be able to do some crazy stuff with a hybrid now that I think of it. Domains are cheap. We might even be able to bastardize a Blogger Blog with some other rented space, calling script and files from that site...

That might not be too bad. I have some domain space. Let me see if I can't do a hp counter that way.

Steve, I just read your post. I can improve the posting attribution here, actually. In fact, I'll do that this weekend.

King Tut

You guys probly know what is needed. I think the current way character sheets work is annoying, we could create something that works better with what we need (i.e. get rid of needing commas, make the categories more appropriate, stop them from thinking they are hyperlinks, etc.). I'd like to see my character sheet next to the blog while I'm reading (frames?). I'd also like to see the names of posters attached to their posts more clearly (i.e. each poster has a different color, and the post is indented, and their color fills the blank space to the left); this would also help seeing how many new posts there are if you have missed a few.

One thing I really hate about Blogger is that I find it hard to change fonts/italics/bold and then change back. I'll turn it off, supposedly, and then start typing again, yet its still italic/bold. I'll select Normal font, yet it will still type Large, and then I have to go back and highlight it and click Normal again. I just find it annoying.

Unfortunately I'll be gone until Sunday evening, which I guess isn't really that long anyway. Good luck on raising stats and try to put off the serious stuff (mirror world stuff) until Sunday if that's possible. Have a great weekend guys.

P.S. I found out today that I passed the FL bar. I didn't want to look because I was pretty sure I failed, and I thought it would depress me in studying for the CPA exam. But I'm going to see my girlfriend this weekend, so I figured that if I failed, it would be better to have her consoling me than sitting in my apartment feeling sad. So I checked, and I passed.

Blog = OK

Perhaps I am missing something, but I think Blogger works just fine. It has its quirks (ie. you guys are running into that word verification thing) but for the most part I think it suits our needs. I think we should look at what other features we would like to have. HP counter has been mentioned, what else? If we put together a list of desired features, we can then build up the new version around it. If we only want/need a few changes like a HP counter, we can add certain things to the sidebars with some fairly simple HTML code that only Rob and Mark can edit. I agree with Mark that simplicity is the best direction. Sure, any of us are intelligent to write and manipulate code... but it sure is nice to log in, type a post and click on a few buttons.

In summary, I think we should put together a list of features/functions that we would like to have and from there start to build.

That being said, I wouldn't mind throwing a couple bucks at DiD 2.0 should some costs arise. Also, I have some resources here at work that could likely help if we decide to bring this thing in house and host it ourselves.

We blog

Haven't seen word verification yet today, so maybe they fixed it.

One big problem with moving systems is: what happens to all the stuff here already on Blogger? Be a shame to lose all this stuff... it'd be great to move it all wholesale to a better server though.

Anyway, I trust in Mark, he brought us to the Blogger, and I know we all appreciate the work he's done here thus far.

But I can work with Blogger, as long as they don't make us jump through any hoops. (Word verification I'm talking to you.)

Blogger sucks big $#@!

Yeah, this verification thing is lame.

I am looking into options. Wordpress of Typepad seem alright, but Typepad costs about $14 a month for a multiple user domain with 1G storage. Not sure about Wordpress pay blogs.

I think we use more than 1G...

Anyway, I am now looking for blogging software that we can use on a traditional hosting platform However, I am not sure if that is even possible. Generally, to change pages, domains require logins and messing with the HTML. We need simplicity for multiple users.

Hell, I guess one user would be fine, as long as we titled our posts individually.

I am open to suggestions.

King Tut

Only a fluff boy would say something like that.

P.S. Blogger has been an absolute P.O.S. lately, what are our other options? Can we rent domain space somewhere?

9.21.2006

Seriously

Steve, yeah sounds good. Have fun with the lady. I mean, we could advance the plot now, but you probably want to be around when mirror-world shit goes down. In any case, be prepared for a ton more posts when you get back, if things continue like the last few days.

And, fluff? Stat raising is serious business, there.

There you go, Mark

Hey Mark,

Sorry about the book thing - if you look at my post, I said I wanted to read it, unless you had something to say.

What you had to say was you wanted a level, so I backed off. There you go, buddy!

King Tut

Suggestion: Make it work.
Suggestion: Make it be awesome.

...............

Why don't you guys keep the book thing going until Sunday night, I'll be out of town visiting my girlfriend from Friday afternoon until Sunday evening, so keep the fluffy stuff going till then.

All day workin' masta got me codin...

Sure thing, if that's what we want, I'll get to making a new gaming blog.

I need to do some research into platforms.

Let me know if you have any suggestions.

Russian music / no lies

"Neck shackles", huh. Well you never know, maybe someone's doing a book report on them? I like the '"brogg's brain" summary' search. Because you know, I'm too busy to really read carefully about Brogg's brain, so just give me the executive summary.

As for the Russian sites: allofmp3.com and gomusic.ru. Something like 2 cents per meg for downloads. Used to be 1 cent per meg until they got sued again. Good, rare, weird stuff can be found, although Dave can attest that I didn't find everything I wanted. Still, I've spent a few hundred bucks there over the years, no lies.

Words... ahhhh words

It warms my heart ever so slightly that people are searching the web for these words... and it makes my heart burn with Joy knowing that their searches led them to our humble corner of the web.

KT

Stamps and Rob those posts were hilarious.

Mark: get to work on that stuff.

Rob: what's this about russian mp3 download sites? I got spoiled by napster and bearshare, but the files shared on bearshare are way down now.

i am in god mode i have teh nukes

Yeah Mark, good idea. Can you imagine trying to do all this over email still? The weblog idea was fantastic, allowing us to do a lot, but that doesn't of course mean it's perfect. It'd be nice to monitor hp better, or have a better way of keeping track of posts if it's been a couple days since you logged on and bam, pages of stuff to read. Shit, we should've talked about this more in Vegas.

Steve St, ha, thanks but I'm going strong. Breaks up the day for me- while the blog now takes up most of my free time, it's honestly not like I have a ton of other crap to do outside the lab right now. Will be going on a ten day trek in a month, will take a break then. Besides, there's sort of a natural ebb and flow of posting and momentum... while it's on, let's keep it on.

Steve Sch, will listen to David Gray later tonight. I've got about a bajillion $$$ left over on Russian mafia mp3 websites and I'm all outta downloads.

Yeah, if Ed can rejoin that'd be great. He should come on board soon though, else he might miss the Vrill-killing. We won't worry about how a half-bugbear snuck in through the forceshield. Maybe he came with Abbey or something.

God mode is funny shit.

New world

For me, the most important thing is that we just go with the flow. It's the quirky shit about DiD that I like the most. Well, second to keeping in contact with everyone.

I kick myself for not inviting the Steves earlier.

Ed now has high speed, and he is considering re-entering. He knows he is a Half-Bugbear.

If we were to run a new campaign, I'd probably like some heads up. I might consider a real website, using a better software.

In that case, we could have real character sheets, and even keep track of things like hit points on the Mainpage. Interactive maps, reference pages, and summaries could be improved.

Also, we could probably automatically compile a campaign summary for posterity.

Let me know if this stuff is of interest.

My penny twice over

I am happy either way. I like my character and all, but I am always up for a challenge and something new. I would love to keep marauding with Schmektor. I also wouldn't mind a new campaign. Rob... When are you going to take a break? the last few days have been a post-a-thon... In the real world, you have a lot of shit going down. I suppose it goes without saying, but at some point, when you are ready for a break... take it.

KT

Yeah thanks for changing those, they look a lot better in italics, espcially in a long post it's hard to see that they are all from me.

Re: Where should DiD go, my opinion is that it should go anywhere that keeps us busy and talking together. I'd like to see the power level kept down (that chainsaw is pretty much off the hook) cause I think when the power levels start to go up, things get sketchy. I'd like to do any sort of campaign. The Narboring one was one of my favorites (working for The Company).

I just want to keep Tut useful and about average in the party. People have +2 weapons, magic shields, magic plate mail, spells, summoning, stuns, and Tut just has a +1 sword. So that's my only concern for him. I don't really care about the books or about ZOMG...my only concern with ZOMG is that we don't use his without the proper preparation, and it backfires, ending this campaign earlier then us PCs would like. I don't really care if he, or the book, or anything else, is "mine."

Otherwise, has anyone listened to David Gray? He reminds me a lot of Bob Dylan. You can listen to some of his music for free (streaming) here. My personal favorite at the moment is Say Hello Wave Goodbye on his White Ladder cd. It's a remake, but I don't know who did the original. The song Babylon was also very popular. I really suggest listening to Say Hello Wave Goodbye, if you hate it you only waste 2 minutes of your life, if you really like it I can burn you the cd and send it to you. I also have the Lost Songs 95-98 cd which I'd be happy to burn and ship.

Whither DiD?

Thanks for the edit Brogg. I'll do the same.

Oof, I guess Zom and the Book are creating a bit of internal dispute. Guys, don't worry, they're a couple of my favorite things right now, so you should see similar things coming up in the future. Especially the book, I've been trying to come up with a way to add IF-style puzzles to DiD, but they had to be single char, stand alone, and do-able at any time, so as not to impede the storyline.

...

About a week ago, I was thinking of asking you guys where DiD should be going, thinking that as the first campaign wraps up, we could start a new one, or keep going with the same chars, or both and open it up again to new players.

But I think I've got enough posts as it is to deal with.

Anyway, something to think about is where all this is going... different people have different feelings about 'high-level' games, and while you certainly won't be high level for a while, pretty soon people will have 5th level spells, which is traditionally where things get real hectic (Raise Dead, Teleport, Plane Shift and Contact Other Plane being the big offenders).

"Pretty soon" probably means by xmas though. This is just super-advance notice so we can philosophize about where to take the game. Or, huh... Dave FoO's been lvl 7 for a while now. Level 9 maybe springtime?

Hey KT, I changed your post headings from Bold to Itallic. -At first I thought they were individual posts from Rob.

Marivhon

I was assuming I could take a kick or elbow for an attack even if I was using the Halberd. I would then just roll my open hand damage and have a chance to stun, but not do the halberd damage. If I can't split it up like that it's ok, but it's not like I'm pulling out another weapon I'm just being monkey.

Either way lot of good it did Tut. I can't wait for my thaco to drop sure I can dish out a ton of damage on a guy who's ac 7, but with the Halberd I am thaco 17.

Postal

Wow, something happened. We're going on like a posting marathon today. Are we actually going to finish the combat tonight? That kinda blows my mind.

Timing is everything...

I love blogger... LOVE it... L. O. V. E.

While Rob spends 20 minutes creating his mad rhymes, I have already posted with some hesitation. you know what I have learned from this situation? Clobber first...

ahhh timing.

OMFG

Thw KoA rap is fucking hilarious!

FORTRESS BADABASKOR, BITCHES

http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/dungeons-dragons-online/537989p1.html

Old article about Steven Colbert (from the Daily Show) playing D&D. The two modules he mentions are fuckin' brilliant. Judges Guild, Judges Guild, Judges Guild!

Schmektor's Blog

Sweet, Schmektor! You've been added to The Known World.

Schmektor has a blog

http://schmektor.blogspot.com/

Hasn't been updated in a while though.

MySpace fags have the best passwords

Not like getting ADMIN access is totally critical, but maybe you guys should take a look at this password analysis:
http://cyber-knowledge.net/blog/2006/09/16/analyzing-20000-myspace-passwords/

Vrill's password just might be: sassy
or maybe he forgot to change the default, and it's:
password

Actually I'm a little (5%) surprised no one's gotten Vrill's password by now.

Dave, Fist of Odin

Oh HELLS Yeah it's Thanksgiving here - we're going to give a HELLA amount of thanks, yo. I mean - for REALS.

Yeah! Mark - you and GQ might see when Mom's coming - maybe y'all could fly out together? Rob (and probably Jules and maybe their friend Jessen) are coming, Chris and Sarah are making us their primary dinner stop - we're going to do it up.

That goes for anyone else here - you want to have Thanksgiving in Portland? Bring it!

OMG

Wow, that Mind Flayer is fucking awesome. I love how he is casting!

Is it Thanksgiving at Paul and Dave's place? Would you have room for two more Pilgrims?

Hiatus

Sorry all. It took longer than I thought it would for the dust to settle.

Holy crap a lot can happen in two weeks... It's good to be back. Let the clobbering commence.

9.17.2006

Sweet kicks

Check out those sneakers. And the codpiece with chains.

Fuckin magic.

WM Mark

No problem Justin, that's why they call me the Gamemaster. Although Mark's the 'webmaster', but he's done enough as it is. He's the guy responsible for the pink background, e.g., while I just sweep up around here at night.

And things are good, thanks for asking. Had a few last night, met some cool people. Travelling a lot in a month, trying to get shit done before I leave. &c.

9.15.2006

Whoops

Uh, whoops. Dunno how that happened... so how is everybody?

There is no I in teamwork, but there is an ewok

Enough said.

Dave, Fist of Odin

Hey all,

Chris and Paul and I are on the Oregon Coast until tomorrow afternoon. I found a little bit of wireless connection, but I dunno how long it'll last - let's just assume we won't be posting until tomorrow.

Also - Rob, I left your pump at Leah's - get it next time. Same for my jacket, unless you want to bring it when you come. Don't sweat it, though. And I'll try to remember the flash drive, and the mailing, but I suck at mailing things out so maybe it's a month more without the Viscious Pink. Anything else you're looking for?

And hi everyone! Anyone else want to come for Thanksgiving? You're all invited to Portland - we're having a big dinner.

9.14.2006

Rather than email, I'll just say stuff here

Hey Portland crew- Chris, Dave, Paul- I'm going to be in Portland for Thanksgiving. Our mom'll be there too, and Jules might be coming also. The plan is to be there late Wed or early Thurs to Sat morning.

Dave, great to see you. You left your jacket with Jessen. I think I forgot to grab your flash drive from the car, and I'm not sure I got the air mattress pump out of there either.

9.13.2006

Uh oh

I think this week's mapstats "searches linking to DiD" is my favorite yet:

Crystal "G-macking" gang
gang g-macking
can looking at the sun hurt your eyes
+d20 +"magic saddle"
"mysterious x"+solution
uh oh

I love that 'uh oh' leads to our blog. Who the hell was searching for 'uh oh'? Hmm. Probably the same guy as was searching for 'can looking at the sun hurt your eyes'.

Although I'm now really curious... where else do these searches go? Especially the 'Crystal "G-macking" gang' one.

Leveling Up Stuff

Just posting stuff here in case I forget and need to see it later.

I currently lack my 1e books, and there are a few tables that aren't in player's reference.

Stuff I have updated on my character: Hit Points, Thac0, Saving Throws

Stuff I have yet to update: Thief Abilities, New Spells, Weapon Profs

9.08.2006

A for effort.

Yeah, but Zangief, he's got heart.

9.07.2006

Lego Star Wars II !!!

I just pre-ordered Lego Star Wars II from Amazon! Can't wait, it ships on Sep. 12. I was going to buy the original one too, but then I figured I'll beat II first and then play I, instead of getting them both.

And by the way, both Dhalsim and Zangief are horrible...Ken and Ryu are the only good characters in Street Fighter.

Good music good rocket jumps.

You must watch this.

Rob, I know you'll dig the music. It just keeps getting better.

9.06.2006

Dhalsim has the stretchy arms

Dave, just a word-up: Dhalsim has the stretchy arms. Zangief had the crazy spinning pile-driver.

Damage

KT, Brogg does so much damage as follows:

+2 Broadsword: S-M:d6+1, L:2d4 (+2)
Double Specalization: +3
18 Strength: +2 (Strength Gauntlets help)

So, that's 2-7 or 2-8, +7. 9-15 without Renwick or DFoO pumping Brogg up more.

Just so you know. Specialization kicks ass, no?

Denver has fewer morons?

Hey Steve - I've been to Denver a couple of times, and I find there to be about as many morons there as anywhere else. I mean, it's a nice town, sure, and has a good airport, and the people I met were friendly - but gaytards are gaytards wherever you go. Maybe you're moving into a moron-proof suburb?

Oh wait. What? MorMons? Hunh. Well, good luck with that. Are Mormons kinda like dillholes? Most of the Mormons I've met are nice people - the good kind of religious, not the creeepy Republican kind - but you're in a better position to know. Maybe the quiet spirituality of the Mormon faith is just a cover for something more sinister. Is that it? If you can't tell me overtly, just post in italics or something - we'll figure it out.

Is it space aliens, using this sect of Christianity to mask their nefarious plans? I sure hope that it doesn't involve using us as a slave race or food or anything. Or alien roller-coaster testers - that would suck. Roller-coasters make me throw up. I can see it now - lurking, shadowy alien forms, overseeing the subjugation of humanity by their chosen Mormon sect, and the horrible, hated words:

"Strap this one in to the Sonic Eviscerator. We'll see about his rebellious sympathies at 200 miles per hour - UPSIDE DOWN!"

It makes me shudder just thinking about it - I'd rather work the ice mines or something, I think. Except I don't like the cold so much, so I'd probably put in for a transfer to the steam mines.

Yup - I can see why you'd want to move - those Mormons seem like Bad News.

Denver 2.0

I may be able to post again while moving... but perhaps not until some time next week.

If Schmektor receives a helping of the beatdown, some one please pull my unconscious body out of melee. Let's not have another song written about Gaddianheim's great great great grandson.

The move to Denver is a good thing, nay, a great thing. New job, better pay, fewer mormons... you know, and all around win.

Demons

This might be bad.

9.04.2006

Just like teh comic book

IMDB does not lie my friend.

The voice talent looks as great as it comes actually. Message board says that since it's Lucy Lawless, they might keep the singing parts. It'll be a fucking MUSICAL no less.

After Las Vegas, I'm sort of a gambling man now. Bets? I bet this'll be cheesy as hell.

I won't say any more here... just let the populi browse for theyselfs.

I hope I don't need cable to see this.

my god. it's true. I can't believe it's true. will they really make it? heh, no it has to be a joke. a cartoon even....how strange.

Better than I would've thought

Yeah, the first one (Episodes IV, V, VI) is f***ing awesome. Me and K sat down and beat it one night. One of the best things is the ability to kill Jar-Jar Binks over and over and over and over. Coming out for PS2, I'm there.

New xbox game coming out

Lego Star Wars II. Someone made the entire star wars trilogy a role-playing game, but the characters look like they are built of Legos. "What the hell are you talking about?" I'll try to demonstrate:

You can read the Xbox preview here

9.01.2006

Oh my.

Beware of secret links.

Dave, Fist of Odin

Hi all,

Yeah, Vegas was cool. Good to see the boyz, bad to gamble away my grad-student money. But what you gonna do? Can't make the scene if you don't spend the green.

I've been reading the religious posts - or rather, kinda-sorta skimming them - and I'd just like to make one point. There are TWO ordained ministers on this site. The two tenets of my faith are:

Freedom of Religion
Lead a Good Life

That's about as organized as I can handle.

Hey Schmektor - what's up with the move? Is everything okay? Are you being forced to move by Scientologists?

I really, really hate those scientologists. Bastards.
